The Nye Beach Writers' Series is a program of Writers On The Edge, Inc. Readings take place in Newport, Oregon on the Central Oregon Coast, the third Saturday of every month except December. This year-round literary cabaret features one author each month, followed by open mike where audience members can read their original work for up to five minutes. No pre-registration is necessary. Open mike readers may sell their books, CDs, broadsides at the book table. Admission is $5 at the door, free to students. The Fisher Poets Gathering in downtown Astoria is scheduled the last weekend of February. Fishing industry-related men and women gather together in this annual event to share their poetry and songs in readings, music venues, workshops and special events. The audience comes from local towns and elsewhere. Event buttons are available for $5/day or $10/weekend donation at the ticket booth of the Columbian Theater, 11th and Marine Drive (Hwy 30).
